What shall we do today? It seems a shame to waste a Saturday Afternoon in April,when it is just beginning to get warm,by staying inside. It isn't hot yet ,and you still need a jacket ,but you don't to wear a sweater under the jacket anymore. Winter is over and your body feels light and good because of the beginning of spring. Nature is waking up after a long sleep. The world is beginning to look green again instead of that tiremore winter grey and soon it will be time for the cherry to blossom.

「英語の構文150」に載っているある小説の一節だ。簡単な英語だが上手な文章で頭にすんなり入ってくる。読んでいて心地よい文だ。

受験英語だとどうしても政治、経済など社会的な事柄を主題にした文が多いが、そういった文はタメにはなるがあまり面白くはない。だから、そればかりを読んでいると飽きてきて勉強がダレてくる。そこで、上のような読みやすく、かつ楽しめる文を読むのだ。それによって勉強意欲の維持が保たれるのだ。

俺はつかみどころが少ない無味乾燥な文を長時間読み続けられるほど出来た人間じゃない。また、「なぜ英語を勉強するのか」などと動機付けしたり、それに伴う勉強方法じゃないと勉強効率が下がる。「面白さ」を求めずに勉強をすることが出来ない人間なのだ。

もちろん、このような勉強が受験においてとても効率の悪いやり方だということは重々承知しているが、これを変えようとは思わない。自分にとっては効率のいい方法なのだ。
